Upcoming Collections - Deborah Lippmann Fall 2011

    Hey guys!

Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian followers! After I type this post up I'm going to get started on a Canada Day nail art design so keep on the lookout for that later today.

In the meantime, I received a very exciting press release yesterday previewing what Deborah Lippmann has in store for us for Fall. Feast your eyes on these:

Just in time for the holiday season,
Deborah Lippmann Gets the Party started

Nothing says ‘Party’ like the magnetic sparkle of glitter. So for the biggest party season of the year, I’ve created shades that truly dazzle. Get This Party Started, a set of three glitters, was inspired by the overwhelming demand for my best selling Happy Birthday, a glittery party in a bottle.

The set includes Happy Birthday, along with two new variations of the sparkling shade: Forget You and Candy Shop. They’re both packed with the same unique hexagon-shaped glitter that gives Happy Birthday its magnificent glint, only Forget You has a sheer black base and Candy Shop a bubblegum pink.

I love how festive all three look and feel, whether wrapped around a champagne glass or peeping out of a glamorous pump. But what I truly love the most: how a few coats of any shade instantly transforms you into the life of the party.

    XOXO,
    Deborah

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: a party in a bottle (glitter)
FORGET YOU: party all night (glitter)
    CANDY SHOP: bubblegum pink (glitter)

    Nordstrom Anniversary Set
    PRICE: $42 (set)
WHERE TO FIND IT: Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and online at www.deborahlippmann.com

Warm Up With Deborah Lippmann’s Fall 2011 Shades

I have worked directly with some of the world’s top fashion designers on everything from ad campaigns to fashion shows. When I set out to select nail looks for the Fall 2011 collections, I noticed a common theme among all of my collaborators: warmth. The clothes featured vivid, lush earth tones—think lush greens, rich reds and intense golds.

I wanted to capture a similar heat and earthiness in the accompanying polishes, but with an added punch. Billionaire, a moody hunter green, Brick House, a shimmering rust, and Single Ladies, a flirtatious red, all have warm undertones, which give them a beautiful intensity, but also have a jewel-like quality so they really make nails pop.

    XOXO,
    Deborah

    Shade Descriptions
    Billionaire: moody hunter green (creme)

    Brick House: shimmering rust (shimmer)

    Single Ladies: flirtatious red (creme)

    PRICE: $16 (each)
WHERE TO FIND IT: Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and online at www.deborahlippmann.com

    Show Worthy

Deborah Lippmann’s new shade, Stormy Weather, is a collaboration with fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez.

Usually Narciso requests a nude nail to complement his minimalist designs, but for fall 2011 around he wanted something bolder — a color with strength and edge to offset both his collection and the softness of the hair and makeup. For the perfect custom finish, I mixed (and mixed) a new shade by hand in just 24 hours. The final product: an edgy granite that emanated power and intensity. The models who walked the show (and who rarely, if ever, comment on the nail color) gushed over the shade. And so Stormy Weather was born an edgy granite (crème) for a strong fall statement.

    XOXO,
    Deborah

One Year Blogiversary Giveaway!

    Hey guys!

I have some exciting news - my one year blogiversary was this past Sunday, June 26th! I would have liked to have this post up for that day but the Canada Post strike foiled those plans because I was waiting on the prizes to arrive, so this post is a little delayed.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you for supporting me over this past year. At first I thought this was just going to be a small hobby, but it's grown into much more than that and it's really become a big part of my life and I'm so happy to be able to share it with all of you.

To celebrate, a great company (Made You Blush) has supplied me with some really awesome prizes that I think you guys are going to be excited about. It's of course not going to be even close to as big as my 500 follower giveaway, but I'm super excited about this one. I've talked a little more about Made You Blush after the jump so be sure to take a look.

The winner of this giveaway will receive 2 brand new bottles of Deborah Lippmann nail polish from the Spring 2011 Collection - Naked & Glitter in the Air.

I've reviewed and swatched Glitter in the Air myself so you can check out that post here but I don't personally own Naked so I'm super jealous of whoever wins this prize!

Keep reading for the rules and information on how to enter!

Please read the rules carefully! I will disqualify entries that do not abide by the rules of this giveaway!

    Rules / Eligibility:
Winner must be a follower of my blog. This giveaway is open to all followers, including my international followers. Participants must be 18 years of age or older or have express permission from a parent or guardian to enter. The giveaway will end at 11:59PM NST (Newfoundland Standard Time) on the evening of Thursday, July 28th. I will use random.org to generate the winner. Once I have notified the winner, they will have 48 hours to claim their prize. If the winner fails to respond to my email within 48 hours, I will choose another winner at random. Participants are allowed to enter up to 4 ways (see below). Entering using all 4 ways will give participants a better chance to win but participants are not required to enter using all 4 ways.

Disclosure: The prizes in this post have been provided by an outside company. I am not receiving any compensation for this post and everything I have/will say about the company is my own opinion and is not influenced by them providing these prizes. For more information, please see my Disclosure Policy.

Made You Blush is a company that I have talked about before, and they are the only website in Canada that I know of that supplies Deborah Lippmann nail polishes. I've actually built a bit of a rapport with the owner of the business and she even emails me personally to let me know when new Lippmann polishes are in stock!

The customer service from this company is among the best I have ever dealt with and I strongly suggest that if you're planning to buy any Lippmann polishes, that this be the place you look. However, they also sell much more than Lippmann polishes so I suggest you take a browse through their website to see what else interests you (and there's bound to be something)!

Thanks again to all of you who continue to support my blog! Good luck!

Swatch Spam - Deborah Lippmann: Part 1

    Hey guys!

Sorry that I haven't been able to post for the past couple of days! My internet went down Thursday morning and we just got it back a few hours ago. I managed to keep up-to-date on Facebook on my phone but I wasn't able to blog at all. I did take a bunch of photos though so I have a couple of posts ready to go. :)

Lately there have been A LOT of hits on the few swatch posts I have for Lippmann polishes, so I thought that you guys might like it if I did swatches of all the Deborah Lippmann polishes that I own.
Now, I only own 10 altogether but I've only swatched 3 of them for you so there'll be 7 Lippmann polishes in this post and the soon-to-come Part 2 post that you haven't seen from me before.

    Enjoy!

Keep reading to see the swatches!

Happy Birthday, Today was a Fairytale, Bad Romance, Boom Boom Pow, Across the Universe

Happy Birthday (mutil-colour, multi-sized, multi-shaped glitter suspended in a clear base)
My swatch comparison post of this polish and 2 of its supposed dupes has been one of my most popular posts all month so most of you already know what I have to say about this polish. However, here's a link to that post in case you missed it.

Today was a Fairytale (sheer silver base with large and small silvery-blue glitter)
This shade was released for Holiday 2010 and it has a special ingredient called "Virgin Diamond Powder". I'm not sure what that really is, all I know is that this polish is gorgeous and unlike any other silver glitters I have in my collection. There's a depth to it so that it's not just your average glitter. This would most likely be used for layering but I also think it looks super pretty on its own - maybe only for an accent nail though since I wouldn't want to waste this.

Bad Romance (small and large magenta glitter packed in a black jelly base)
This shade was released for Fall 2010 along with Across the Universe and although I think this one took a backseat to Across the Universe, this is still an amazing polish. Just look at the swatches. Need I say more?

Boom Boom Pow (clear base with small and large gold glitter pieces as well as some smaller gold micro-glitter)
This was the other shade that was released for Holiday 2010 along with Today was a Fairytale and this one also has a special ingredient - 24 carat gold. I think the 24 carat gold is probably those smaller pieces of what looks like micro-glitter but they really stand out and make this shade super shiny and mesmerizing. This would most likely be best used as a layering polish but I also like the look of it on its own. However, like Today was a Fairytale, I probably would only use this on an accent nail because I would be afraid to use it all up.

Across the Universe (glitter party of small blue glitter and blue/teal hexagonal glitter suspended in a deep blue jelly base)
I've talked about this one a number of times, most recently in my Top 10 Polishes post so I'm not going to go into any detail here because you can just go back and see all of the awesome things I have said about it before.

Swatch Comparison - Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday vs. Wet 'n' Wild Party of 5 Glitters vs. Milani Gems

    Hey guys!

Some of you might remember that a few months ago I posted this comparison of Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday and Wet 'n' Wild's Party of 5 Glitters. Well, I now own Milani Gems as well, which is yet another supposed Happy Birthday dupe so I thought it would be appropriate to add a comparison of that as well.

Keep reading to see the comparison!

Milani Gems, Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday, Wet 'n' Wild Party of 5 Glitters, (2 coats of each over OPI Black Onyx)

The glitter is much denser in the Lippmann polish than the Wet 'n' Wild one but only slightly denser than the Milani polish. However, adding a third coat to each of the less dense ones would make them about equal in regards to glitter density.

Some differences in regard to the colour of the glitters is that Party of 5 Glitters doesn't have any gold glitter pieces in it while both Happy Birthday and Gems do. Also, Party of 5 Glitters doesn't have smaller silver glitter pieces, only larger ones while both Happy Birthday and Gems have both. One of the only differences in this regard between Happy Birthday and Gems is that Gems is missing the smaller square glitter pieces that Happy Birthday has. However, all of these minor differences will probably be barely noticeable on the nails.

I don't particularly like the brush for any of the polishes so that didn't really matter to me. I found the Lippmann and Milani brushes to be a little too thin and the Wet 'n' Wild brush felt too stiff.

The price difference between these 3 polishes is pretty crazy. The Wet 'n' Wild polish is $2.84 at Wal-Mart, the Milani polish is $4.99 on Milani's website, while the cheapest I've seen the Lippmann polish for is about $18 on eBay.

So if you missed out on Happy Birthday or if you just don't want to shell out that much for one polish, Party of 5 Glitters is a great alternative, while Gems is practically a dupe.
